Ethical Tech

Fried chicken eaters before profits.

Partner with the platform that supports local, loves food and together, maybe, just maybe we can do something awesome.

Disclaimer
We are a tech company that makes it really easy to sell food online, we are not saving the world, but together we hope we can support those who do. If you have questions about tech, business, food or Aliens, please contact us, if you have questions about human rights, climate change or anything else of significance please contact these people:
https://www.hrw.org . They know what they’re talking about.

We are a startup which means our profit margins are slim. Currently our impact is minimal, however we hope if we cement these values in now, they will be our DNA later when we have more opportunity to support those making meaningful change.

Why it shouldn't matter

Have you ever won an award for cold pizza or gotten a 5 star review for melted ice cream? We didn’t think so. Tech often believes that human problems can be solved with the right line of code. It stands on the corner and says “Are you tired? Here! How about a nice cup of cold coffee?” Sure it’s got caffeine but it ain’t the way it should be.

We whole heartedly disagree with this way of thinking, believing that tech is just a tool, not the answer for human problems. Our commitment to ethical tech no different than a commitment to serving you hot coffee. It should be expected, unimpressive and is just the way tech should be.

Our commitment to picnics

Pavement is built by people not computers. There is no greater asset than our team which is why we do exactly what's expected to keep them happy.

We hire exactly who we should hire

We are an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to ensuring our team represents the socio-economic makeup of the countries we operate in. It is up to us to ensure talent in under-represented people groups are actively sort out, and invest heavily into providing opportunity in Tech for those without.

Creativity over education

We hire based on skill, creativity and work ethic over degrees. While we absolutely believe education is the single greatest tool in our box, we recognize that access to post secondary is not a level playing field.

More Time For Charcuterie

We believe that work is meant to augment life, not the reverse. We expect our staff to be 100% committed and focussed when they work, however once they are at home they are at home. This means no late night phone calls, no weekend sprints and no unpaid hours. We work on a flex hour schedule allowing most positions to choose their own hours, commit to a realistic level of task completion and get more time for picnics, preferably with charcuterie.

Impacting local communities

10% of our profits are donated to local grassroots organizations that make a meaningful impact in a small group of peoples lives. This ensures a maximum amount of our profits stay within the local communities we work serve instead of being shipped offshore.

Tech for all

Every single person on the face of the planet, regardless of age, language or ability deserves an equally incredible online experience. We design and build to ensure the experience is easy, fun, beautiful and to bring gorgeous food ordering to everyone.

No Peeping Toms

Anyone ever invited the store clerk into the change room? That’d be weird right? We believe that customers should be able to shop in private, when they want how they want without sharing it to the world. Customer Data belongs exclusively to the customer, us and the vendor never to be sold or shared without exclusive permission.

Our leadership is average

We run our company based on the concept that leaders should... well.. lead. We count it an incredible privilege that anyone would spend hours of their life working on a product with us, as such, we see our primary roll is to look after our team.

Success measured by people, not profits

Pavement is People, without them there is no us. We measure success by the quality of life for the people who work with us, People who use our product and people to consume the food they make. We will happily sacrifice profits in order to enhance the quality of life for this around us.

Players before Captains

As founders, we recognize that stand to gain the most by a success of the company. As such,  we sacrifice first, work longer and commit to being the first in the line of fire. We get bonuses and raises after our staff, Work extra hours before we ask our staff to and, take pay cuts to ensure steady income for our staff.

Salary Caps

All those with equity in the company have a maximum earning ceiling calculated by living wage and inflation. This ensures a more even playing field for our team, providing an “everyone gets a piece of the pie” vs “we get the pie, you get the crust” approach to wage equality.
